Delaware Auto Transportation Information
Shipping a car to Delaware shouldn’t be all that difficult. The biggest reason is its location, and its ease of access. Delaware sits close to both Baltimore, Maryland and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Those are two major car transportation hubs along the eastern seaboard. Because of this, carriers have a much easier time running routes to Delaware, since they have easy access to more customers in big areas that are nearby. Wilmington is going to be the most popular Delaware car transport location, though. It is located in the northern climes of the state and sits right along I-95 – the only major city in Delaware to sit along an interstate.
And that’s a problem, especially if you’re shipping to central or southern Delaware. It’s not like carriers can’t get there – it’s just that they have to travel along a state highway instead of an interstate. And that state highway doesn’t really go anywhere major except Hampton Roads…which is a four hour drive. Now, for a carrier that’s not a big deal. And the route does take them through eastern Maryland, which has cities like Salisbury. But it takes them away from the main shipping centers north of Delaware, which can end up costing them money. It won’t cost an arm and a leg to ship to Delaware, of course; you just may need to talk to your agent about ways to get the best price.
About Popular Delaware Auto Transportation Locations
Wilmington is the largest city in Delaware and easily the most accessible. Located in the northern arc of the state, it sits right along I-95 and is a major economic center of the state. This means that more people are shipping to Wilmington than any other city in Delaware. More importantly, it sits along a major interstate that connects some of the largest cities in the country together. It also sits close to other major shipping locations, notably Baltimore and Philadelphia.
Dover is the capital of the state and Delaware’s second-largest city. It would be as popular as Wilmington to ship to, if it were easier to get to. It’s not that Dover is hard to access – it sits right along highway 1. But that means carriers have to detour off I-95, which is many a carrier’s preferred route. This tends to up the price a bit over Wilmington but luckily not by much.
Newark is the third-largest city in the state but a more popular area to ship to than Dover. And it’s for the same reasons people like to ship to Wilmington – it’s in the northern arc, right along a major interstate. Newark doesn’t see as much traffic as Wilmington, on the whole, mostly due to its smaller size. However, it sits close to Wilmington, which means prices to both Newark and Wilmington should be about the same.

- "Being a rather large SUV that needed shipped from California to Nebraska, there were a few challenges. The first truck that arrived refused to pickup the vehicle due to it's size. However, Mike worked diligently and within one week he had a hotshot lined up. The operators of the hotshot were incredibly communicative and accommodating. The vehicle arrived withing 3 days with no damage at all. Although there was the one hiccup, in the end the service received was top notch. I would be happy to ship with Mike in the future." - Miles/California
