When you ship a vehicle, there’s a process – the auto transport process – that every single broker like us uses to ship your vehicle. From start to finish it’s fairly streamlined, but it’s important to understand how it works.
We want our customers to be informed every step of the way. That’s why we’re giving you a comprehensive look at the auto transportation process from start to finish. From the initial quote to the booking process to dispatch and delivery, it’s all here for you.
The auto transport process – before you book
Like most things, shipping a vehicle starts with a quote. You can get a free quote right here on our website by filling out our online quote request form at the top of the page.
Once you have your quote, you can place an order over the phone with any of our representatives. They’ll need some basic information, including pickup and delivery addresses. Placing an order makes sure that your spot on the truck is reserved and that your vehicle will be picked up when you need it picked up.
The auto transport process – after you book
Once you book your order, your agent will look for a carrier of the type you requested. Most times customers just need a standard open transport trailer, but some vehicles require enclosed or even flatbed haulers. We offer both those services.
When a carrier is found for you and your pickup is scheduled, we’ll charge your card our fee for our services. After that, you just have to wait for the truck to arrive. Once they arrive, you’ll do an inspection of the vehicle with the driver to note any current damage. This is important for insurance purposes – without a pickup inspection, you won’t be able to submit a damage claim if you need to.
Once your vehicle is picked up, again, you simply wait until the driver drives it to the delivery address. At delivery, you’ll need to pay the rest of the balance to the driver in some type of certified funds. This is because the delivery of your vehicle can’t be undone, so carriers don’t want to take money in a form where that can be undone. Cash, cashier’s check, or money order are the most common ways to pay at delivery.
You’ll also do a delivery inspection with the driver to note any new damages. Damage is rare during transport, but it happens, so it’s important to be thorough in the inspections.
And that’s it!
